Munay-Ki Rites

Munay-Ki is a q’uechuan word which translates as ‘I love you’, or ‘Be as thou Art’.  The nine great rites of enlightenment, known by the Q'ero shamans as the Munay-Ki, have been available in many forms in different traditions throughout time. In some traditions rites are passed on when one has reached a certain level of attainment on the path. In the Inka tradition, these rites are gifted at the beginning of the journey, to awaken our capacities to heal and transform our luminous energy bodies.  These rites have previously been passed from shaman to shaman or from spirit to shaman. Since 2006, these rites have been available for all of us called to receive and gift on these rites to do so.

The Munay-Ki Rites

The Nine Great Rites of Enlightenment, know by the Q’ero Shaman of Peru, as the Munay-Ki, are the universal human rites of passage. Throughout history, every culture has known human people who lived at the highest quality of consciousness: Christ, Buddha, Gandhi, the great poets of Persia – Rumi, Hafiz, Kabir, Lala. People who are aware of the connectedness of all, and are masters of living energy. Most of these people received their level of enlightenment through spirit and the natural world. The Great Rites have always been available that way.

Today, however, we are blessed to be able to receive these Rites person to person. In some traditions, Rites are given to people who have accomplished a level of consciousness. In the tradition of the Q’ero Shaman of Peru, Rites are given at the beginning of the journey, to help guide the unfolding awakening.

The Munay-Ki consists of 2 different types of Rites, Foundation Rites and Lineage Rites.

The journey starts with the Voyager Rite, which helps us to recognize that we are on a spiritual journey. The Voyager Rite is a Lineage Rite, which means that it connects us to the human people who have lived before us. These are medicine men and women who recognized that not only were they on a journey, but that they could impact their journey. They also recognized that their touch or presence had impact upon those around them. By receiving this Rite, we acknowledge the journey, our impact on others, and our connection to those who have come before us. We receive the help of the voyagers of all time.

The next step on the journey comes in 3 beautiful gifts, called the Foundation Rites: The Bands of Power, The Harmony Rites, and Seer Rite. These Rites remind of us our innate skills, and of our connections to the resources of the elements and nature.

The Bands of Power, are 5 colored bands of light which are organized through intention, from the rainbow fountain of light that encircles our physical body. Each band is connected to an element. With the bands in place we become consciously connected to the earth, the waters, fire, the wind, and pure spirit. The intention is set that any heavy unusable energy that comes our way through life will be mulched by the bands and used for food, instead of coming though to us and weighting us down. The Bands of Power leave a space between us and the outside world, and at the same time help us to consciously be connected to everything and everyone, ultimately allowing unconscious, fear-based armoring to drop away.

The Harmony Rites are gifts of beauty from the natural archetypal world. Into each Chakra is placed an ally that brings harmony and transformation. Each archetype resonates with the Chakra that it is brought into. In the first 4 Chakras power animal energies are placed. Serpent is placed in the first Chakra, Jaguar in the second, Hummingbird in the third, and Eagle in the fourth. In the upper three Chakras, guides to the realms of the unconscious, conscious, and super conscious are placed. All of the allies bring balance and harmony, helping to clear heavy energies and allow for the fullness of the rainbow body to shine forth through our physical bodies, relationships, mythic journey, and spirit nature.

The Seer Rite enables us to embrace the fullness of our sensing capabilities. Five pathways of light are woven from the third eye to the visual cortex in the back of the head and two pathways of light are woven from the heat Chakra to the visual cortex. These pathways are infused with energy, reawakening the Shaman’s way of seeing. In the West we are trained to focus with the eyes to see exactly what is in the literal world. We tend to focus so much energy on this that we diminish our natural ability to taken in information from all the levels around us. The Seer Rite helps us to perceive the energy in many ways. Seeing more of the fullness of energy around us, we will no longer be able to block out our own shadow. We will see the shadow and light of others more clearly, as well. This is why the Seer Rite is connected to the heart Chakra, so that we may see ourselves and others through our most compassionate heart.

The Bands of Power, the Harmony Rites, and the Seer Rites give us the tools we need for the journey. This foundation prepares our luminous energy field to hold the vibration and growth available in the next five Rites.

The Daykeeper Rite, is the Rite of the divine feminine. It helps awaken within us an appreciation for our feminine gifts. Both male and female people have the capacity to access and use the gifts of the feminine, and it is said that we must reconnect with our feminine side before we can know and embody the true nature of the masculine.

The Daykeeper is a lineage Rite, connecting us with people who have fully awakened their nurturing ways. As Daykeepers we become the midwives of birth and death, working in community, celebrating the milestones of life: marriages, children, adulthood, and croning.

We follow the cycles of life, and honor the rising and setting of the sun. The Daykeepers of old were also altar keepers, knowing the songs and ceremonies of the world’s altars; from the grandeur of Machu Picchu and Chichen Itza to the simple stone and wooden alters and path markers.

The Wisdomkeeper Rite is the 3rd lineage Rite, and offers the gifts of the divine masculine. In our western world we are highly rewarded for being able to be solitary, focused, linear, critical thinkers. Up until now this has come through without the guidance of the connectedness and nurturing of the divine feminine, and created a space ripe for greed, abuse of the environment, and the history of war. As our planet heals its feminine and connective side, there will be less and less space for abuse.

The Wisdomkeeper is the part of us that seeks his own council, takes his/her place by the eternal fire, is self referencing and self regulating. This part of us can bring great focus to our work, and the world's problems. The Wisdomkeepers have left personal stories in the dust behind them, taking on powerful myths and maps to enlighten and lift others up.

The Earthkeeper Rite connects us with a lineage of human beings who have lived beyond duality. Having fulfilled their divine feminine and masculine, the ego becomes fulfilled, and the soul begins to lead. As Earthkeepers we have an expanded view; as if floating in the stars, we see the Pachamama or Mother Earth in her entirety, with all her creation, and sense our stewardship of her. As any good steward, we begin to vision the most beautiful future possible of the Earth. As Earthkeepers, our energy helps shape and paint the future. We are part of all creation. We can experience ourselves in and through life all over the planet.

The Starkeeper Rite is the 5th lineage Rite, which expands our being even further, to the places throughout all time, to the stars and beyond. As Starkeepers we begin to work with energy, time, and space as one. We learn how to dance in the stars, journey forward into the future and bring back what is needed to fulfill the now. As Starkeepers we are the midwives and creators of portals. We take stewardship of the universe and all time.

In the Starkeeper Rite, we reach our hands to the heavens and ask for new stars. These stars are brought down, one into each Chakra. This process prepares the luminous body to begin to shine with the light of the sun.

The Creator Rite is the final Rite in the process of human enlightenment. It takes all the preparation and growing of seeds in the previous Rites to prepare the luminous body, as well as the mental and physical bodies, to hold the energy of this Rite. As the Rites help us work through our issues with feminine, masculine, ego, story, time, space, and energy, we become free. Truly free. We know ourselves as creation itself. With the ego at rest, the soul becomes able to come down more fully into our physical body. This is the stage of Christ consciousness, Buhdda consciousness. Those who shine with the light of the sun, Gods walking on earth.

These are the Great Rites of Enlightenment, or Munay-Ki as brought through the Q’ero shaman of Peru. The seeds of these Rites can grow within anyone, all at once, creating a beautiful garden of gifts for ourselves and the world we live in. It is our honor to share these Rites with you, and teach you how to share them with others.
